Introduction

Welcome to the 20th Annual Festival of Jewish Cinema!

The start of any new Festival is a cause for celebration. This year’s event, however, also marks a significant milestone, and we hope that you’ll be able to join us for this special celebratory edition.

This year, we are offering Festival-goers an ambitious, panoramic view of contemporary Jewish cinema.

To mark our anniversary, a retrospective of some of the most requested films featured at past Festivals will screen alongside the best new features and documentaries from around the world.

We hope that you all make the most of the occasion as this year’s programme is a stellar selection, hand-picked from the best films shown at the world’s leading film festivals.

This year’s Opening Night Film, A Matter of Size, is a complete change in tone and subject from 2008.

It is a hilarious comedy from Israel, and a tonic for our times.

There are many other Festival highlights to choose from, but a special mention is in order for two Australian productions premiering at our Festival, Wrong Side of the Bus and Leave the Stones There.

We are particularly pleased that this year children and teenagers are able to attend the entire Festival programme in accordance with new film classification guidelines approved for our event by the Classification Board.

(Please see the Ticketing information for the full details.) This is a wonderful opportunity for younger members of our community to experience first-hand the large and rich world that is Jewish cinema.
